Prayer from the 78th Congress, July 5, 1943
Our fathers’ God and ours, on the birthday of national independence we confess our dependence upon Thee. Without Thee we are lost in spite of the overwhelming might of our national arms.
We thank Thee for those pilgrims of faith who came hither in their frail barque across mountainous seas and who stepped upon strange shores with the salutation to a new world, “In the Name of God. Amen.”…. Make that faith of the fathers, we pray, real to us in these tempestuous days. Save us from a freedom of speech so empty that we have nothing worth saying, from a freedom of worship so futile that we have no God to adore, from freedom from want and fear with no creative ideas was to how to use our plenty or our security for the redemption of our social order and for the salvation of our own souls. Let all that is low and unworthy in us sink to the depths. Let all that is high and fine in us rise to greet the morn of a new day confident that the best is yet to be. Amen.

Children of the Cross
Do you worry about your children? Come experience how you can replace your anxiety and fear with peace and hope by praying with others. Children of the Cross is a prayer group that meets in the Chapel on Wednesdays, after the 12:15 Mass. We pray specifically and scripturally for our children. If you would like more information, please email carol@holycrosschapel.org or call the Chapel or join us this Wednesday.
Consecration to Jesus
Free copies of the Preparation for the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary are available in the Bookstore. This is a 33-day consecration of one’s self that concludes on a feast day of Our Lady and which can be made at 6 different times during the year. The next preparation begins Saturday, July 13, and will conclude on the Feast of the Assumption. The next Preparation period after this one begins July 20. The Consecration is a devotion of daily prayer that was begun by St. Louis de Montfort in the 17th century. If you would like to make this private devotion, please pick up the Preparation book from the Bookstore.
A Prayer for Job Seekers
Gracious and loving God, you know our need for meaningful work. Send your Holy Spirit to guide those who are searching for employment. Help them to recognize the gifts and talents you have given them. Deepen their desire to follow your will. Inspire them as they contact potential employers. Give them patience as they wait for responses.
Shelter them from feelings of rejection. Protect them from discouragement. Give them courage to overcome fear.
Shower on them the graces they need to persevere. Let this time of searching become an opportunity to grow in faith, to cultivate the virtue of hope, and to experience your healing love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
